Furman is the oldest, largest and most selective private institution in South Carolina. Founded in 1826, Furman enrolls approximately 2,600 undergraduate and 525 graduate students on its 750-acre (3 km 2 ) campus. Today Furman offers majors and programs in 42 subjects. Most of Furman's 2,600 undergraduates are from the South Atlantic region, but more than 40 states and 15 foreign countries are represented in the student population.
