Review: Center for Environmental Policy
Degree Offered: Masters in Environmental Policy , Masters in Climate Science and Policy, Professional Certificate Format: Campus
Program Description: The Bard Center for Environmental Policy seeks motivated students who are dedicated to creating effective environmental policy. Students are trained in leadership, communication, and critical inquiry while working on the most current and complex issues in the environmental policy arena to uncover viable solutions to pressing environmental problems. The strength and uniqueness of Bard CEP rests on its innovative thematic curriculum; ability to offer an extended internship through various professional institutions; close mentorships between students and faculty; joint-degree programs; the high placement rate of its graduates; and a rural, yet culturally rich setting in New York’s Hudson Valley. Bard CEP offers two degree programs, an M.S. in Environmental Policy and an M.S. in Climate Science and Policy. Both degrees take place over the course of two years, and include a 4-6 month internship and a master's thesis. The modular approach to coursework in the first year enables students to examine one environmental area at a time in a comprehensive and realistic manner. Students enrolled in either degree may choose to pursue one of our dual degree programs. Students engage in an intensive course of study with practical training in preparation for environmental careers in nonprofit organizations, government, and the private sector. Bard CEP emphasizes methods of critical inquiry and provides the practical knowledge necessary to understand the legal, political, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethical forces that influence the decision making process. Graduates of the program are ready to bring these assets, underpinned by a sense of social responsibility and commitment, to their future work. Accreditation: New York State Education Department, Office of Higher Education and the Professions # of Credits Required: 44 - 54
