Review: School of Pharmacy, PharmD Program
Degree Offered: PharmD, PharmD/MBA, PharmD/JD, PharmD/MPH, PharmD/PhD, and PharmD/MS Format: Campus
Program Description: Our doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) program prepares students to be experts on drug therapy and work directly with patients. Applicants are attracted by the excellence of our doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) and combined degrees (PharmD/MBA, PharmD/JD, PharmD/MPH, PharmD/PhD, and PharmD/MS). These programs include quality staff, students, graduates, and faculty including Distinguished Teaching Professors and recipients of the Chancellor's Awards for Excellence. UB sits at the nexus of a groundbreaking life sciences and bioinformatics research center. Since our founding in 1866, the University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences has played a major role in transforming pharmacy from a professional practice to a major field of clinical research. Our faculty has established a clinical research infrastructure dedicated to research in pharmacotherapy for infectious diseases, transplantation, oncology, neurology, geriatrics, cardiovascular, medical imaging, critical care, therapeutic drug monitoring, drug-drug interactions, and medication adherence. Working in top-flight research centers such as Center for Drug Discovery and Experimental Therapeutics (CDDET), the Pharmacotherapy Research Center (PRC), Pharmaceutical Genetics Laboratory, UB's renowned researchers work across disciplines to further exciting new biomedical research that improves people's lives. UB is more than just an education, it's an experience. Students receive the one-on-one attention of a smaller program, but reap the benefits of a world-class research center. The success of the school's graduates is rooted in the close-knit community of students, alumni, and faculty who work together to create an atmosphere of active collaboration and mentorship. Accreditation: Fully Accredited by ACPE - Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education Eligibility Requirements: Freshmen who enter UB directly from high school who indicate pharmacy as their intended major are considered "Early Assurance" and are eligible for admission upon completing the pre-pharmacy curriculum. Transfers who complete the equivalent to two years of college coursework are also considered. The Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) and Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS) and letters of recommendation are required of all applicants except Early Assurance students. International Student Requirements: UB SoPPS requires TOEFL or TSE scores for non-native English speaking applicants. Foreign transcripts must be translated by World Education Services, Inc. (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc (ECE), or Josef Silny & Associates. If a non-U.S. citizen or non-permanent resident applicant passes a preliminary review by the Admissions Committee, they will be required to submit the following: an application to the University at Buffalo's (SUNY) Office of International Admissions. Note: receiving a letter of acceptance to the PharmD program does not finalize acceptance to the University at Buffalo through the Office of International Admissions. Also, receiving a letter of acceptance to the University at Buffalo does not finalize acceptance to the PharmD program.
