Review: Environmental Geology

Degree Offered: M.S.- Geology Format: Campus
Program Description: The IUPUI graduate program in Geology leads to a Master of Science degree from Indiana University. Our terminal degree at the IUPUI campus is the Master of Science. As a result, our faculty are able to focus their attention on our Masters program student research. We offer a thesis and non-thesis option; however, typically only thesis-option students are considered for funding. Our thesis option requires 24 credit hours of graduate level courses and 6 credit hours of a research thesis. We have between 8-12 full-time graduate students per year. Interested students should contact us prior to applying. If applicable, an appointment/visit can be set up for you to see our facilities and meet a few of our faculty. Students can apply with an interest in a specific faculty member or a group of faculty members. Admission decisions are decided by our graduate committee and not individual faculty members. Once you enter the program, you will take a majority of your courses in your first year. Also, you will choose your research advisor and submit your thesis (research) proposal. Your second year (including the summer) is focused on completing your research project and writing your thesis while finishing your course work. What We Offer-These items are subject to change, but represent what our current grad students are offered. In addition to our research facilities and equipment, to support our graduate students we: Offer graduate funding and tuition waivers (see the links below for more information). Funding is typically offered over a two year period for a M.S. degree student; the graduate committee will alert students to their funding length and duties upon acceptance. Offer a travel stipend for a student to attend a regional or national conference Provide a student with both a desk and a computer in either our graduate office or one of our research labs. Support student research through assistance from our Laboratory Coordinator and Systems Engineer. Off Eligibility Requirements: When you have decided to apply to join us, fill out the Online Application Form provided by the IUPUI Graduate Office. (scroll down to "Proceed to Online Application"). NOTE: The suggested application submission date is January 15th. Submission in mid-January maximizes the prospective student's opportunity to receive financial aid. However, the Geology Department will consider applications for admission throughout the year. International Student Requirements: If you are an International Student you MUST view the Office of International Affairs website prior to applying. This is a VERY IMPORTANT link because the university has specific financial requirements that must be met prior to applying for graduate study.
