Message: Stopped here for lunch. There are several cafes and restaurants on campus that are open to the public for those that are looking for Chick-fil-A or sushi even a salad and wraps place. There's free parking and ample picnic tables to sit out outside and enjoy a nice lunch overlooking the college campus.

Message: New to PT.. (physical therapy) and hopeful it will aide me in my pain levels from the diabetes I struggle with every day. It's a little bit of a walk from the parking lot.. no more than if you went to the mall or the Harris Teeter. But THESE students are well trained.. Congenial, courteous, and professional. Looking forward to my next appointment

Message: Once a Bulldog always a Bulldog! I am completely thrilled that my one and only daughter and child will officially become a Wingate Bulldog in August 2021! Wingate University holds a special place in my heart as this is where I started my college education. I ended up transferring to complete my Nursing degree (at the time Wingate did not offer Nursing degrees) Even so, my faculty advisors and mentors steered me towards my strengths, leading me to a rewarding career in Nursing. To backtrack a little, before I started at Wingate University, one of my brothers and his now wife met at and graduated from Wingate. When I started there, I was home!

Message: It was really nice there. Our visit was March 2020 the weekend when Covid-19 closures had just begun. Staff was friendly and helpful and still allowed a few families with potential students to tour the school. Planning to visit again this spring and possibly enroll our daughter for Fall 2021.

Message: This is a great university. You can tell that the staff here for the most part cares and does all that they can to offer an affordable education in a field that will get people jobs and prosperity. The actual campus is absolutely wonderful. It is very scenic and laid out nice. There area also some very quaint older buildings.

Message: This college has a sweet amiable feel to it. I did not attend but I know someone whose daughter attended. She felt like giving up a few times but stayed the course and graduated today. (5. 12. 19) I am not sure if the school partners with other entities to offer summer internships but I wish she had that opportunity to do so. Beautiful campus.

Message: I have one child who has already graduated from here, and one child who is a current student. Small campus and teacher to student ratio is fantastic. Professors who care about their students great! Financial Aid and Business office who know what to do and how to communicate with parents. Not so hot. Parents will need to stay on top of students to find out what is going on, but the education is fantastic!

Message: Wingate has a very personable and helpful staff many of whom have been there a long time it seems. Admissions staff was first rate. But once your student is enrolled, as a parent, you will need to be persistent to stay informed so you can help your student succeed.. Wingate's technology is antiquated. Difficult to do any business online as a parent. The school is paper intensive and sometimes the paper seems to fall through cracks. Wingate only recently came up with a way for tuition to be paid online. There is no parent portal yet that allows you to stay up to date with what is due when. Bills are mailed and the expectation is you mail checks or pay on site. If they have a payment plan, they do not advertise it. Most pertinent information goes through the student portal that the parent has no access to. This creates opportunities for miscommunication and missed deadlines.. The school is under-staffed. If you have to phone someone to ask for help or clarification, expect to get voicemail that states you will hear back in a couple of days at least. Email is a better option but don't expect a same-day reply.. Communication is not a strength here. During this last and very widespread flu season, the campus had a very big outbreak but no classes were cancelled and parents never received any communication regarding making certain your student had a flu shot.. Overall, I would say the school has its heart in the right place and most professors are engaged and want to see the students succeed. Still, the school has a ways to go in developing the kind of infrastructure that justifies its tuition costs.. Wingate rightly has a reputation as a collegiate Sparta, roughly one in every four students is some sort of athlete. Not necessarily a bad thing but if your student is not going to be playing a sport or chooses to leave a sport once there, be aware of what other options they have on campus to stay engaged. The student transfer rate accelerates at year two.. If campus surroundings are a consideration, know that Wingate is an exceedingly small town so that the campus is basically all there is. The neighboring town of Monroe is slightly bigger with more ammenities: small mall, Walmart and fast food options. Charlotte is a short drive beyond that. Uber is not allowed on campus, we were told. So your student needs a car or friends with wheels if he or she is going to leave campus or fly out of Douglas International.. Overall, Wingate has been a good experience for our student despite a bit of heavy lifting for the parents. Having proper expectations is important when choosing a college. Before you go, we wanted you to know what our experience has been.
